Mindfulness: A Reminder

Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment, having no judgement of others and having appreciation. Having this peace of mind creates clarity, balance, and awareness of the world around you and makes your reality so much more vivid.

We all want to be the best versions of ourselves and mindfulness can be the perfect step to reach this. This is something I have always aspired to be, the best version of myself - yet it seem so hard to get there. Many moments I have taken a step back, disliking my actions, wishing I didn't say the words which slipped out of my mouth. Without mindfulness, these actions won't go away easily, you must be completely in the present and conscious of your actions and the people around you. The past and memories can be hard to swallow, and of course, it's not realistic to erase these moments from your mind but focusing on the present creates a whole new perspective on what matters the most; your family, friends, the world. Be thankful and you will soon feel more centred, your awareness will broaden and your whole perspective of the world will change. I believe that focusing on the present is something I need to do more, being mindful is such a simple concept yet so many of us just forget to be mindful, so here's a little reminder.

Little changes we can make to become more mindful

Just slow down

It's often we find ourselves rushing for no reason, life can put a lot of pressure on you and throw you off balance. I always find myself rushing through various tasks, when really there is no need - just take your time and find enjoyment in what you're doing.

Put down the camera and phone

I am the biggest hypocrite here as once food arrives in front of me - yep there I go, snapping away. Actually taking our time and placing all of our attention on the food and the person in front of us, well, it's living in the moment. Savour the food and appreciate every delicious second of it.

Conscious breathing is a big one

When you listen to your body you will become more centered, your awareness will increase and your anxieties will decrease. Those negative thoughts will soon flutter away as you are becoming connected with your body and mind.

Don't judge a book by its cover

It's one we all know well but do we really live up to this? Probably not. People can seem unapproachable but make sure you are willing to give them a chance, you don't know what someone is going through so be kind and don't judge. Get to know them, acknowledge all of their positivity and you may discover many of their wonderful qualities. You never know, you may end up being bffls for life.

Don't get stuck in a rut

We usually end up in a certain routine, this can become monotonous and can definitely cause negative emotions in the long term. Switching things up can make a world of difference, maybe go for more walks or join that class you have had your eye on.

Be thankful

Appreciate those around you, always say goodbye before you leave the house, tell the people you love that you love them. Appreciate everything you have, appreciate the little things; the flowers on your doorstep, the lady who waves to you every morning or that digestive you're about to dip in your tea.

Most of all, remind yourself to be mindful.

There's nothing special about the present moment except that it's all we have - Dean Slutyer

From this moment on, I will be reminding myself to be more mindful; will you be joining me?

  7. This is honestly amazing and really empowering for me to read! I find that it helps to switch off technology and stop thinking I am going here for my blog etc, it's really like enlightening when you actually savour moments without documenting them all xxx

  8. Thank you so much for posting this. I've always been such a huge advocate for being mindful and living in the moment. That being said, I'm also the biggest hypocrite too, but hey I'm only human. Your tips are really helpful! One thing I found to be really helpful in regaining mindfulness is reading "You Are Here" by Thich Nhat Hanh, it's a great read, I highly recommend it!

  16. What a wonderful post, Hannah. Mindfulness is something I've been trying to practice for a while now, though I still get stuck in a rut with the past a lot. Not judging a book by its cover is a rule I SWEAR by.

Absolutely in love with all the quotes you've picked out. What a great great post, the perfect Monday pick-me-up. I've followed and can't wait to read more of your inspiration.

    Thank you.

  18. This was so wonderful to read Hannah, I need to remind myself to slow down sometimes. I'm always in a hurry but I don't know why! Being thankful is so simple but makes a big difference, I try and be grateful for something the moment I wake up - I try and think of 3 things and it really helps set a positive mindset for the day :)

Hope you're having a good day so far :)

  21. oh yes, absolutely yes. i really needed to read this, and so after it's i feel somehow better, cause i realized how much i'm missing, how much i'm loosing only because of that stupid stubbornness...
i fight a lot with my boyfriend only because i judge too much. i feel like i can't forget and forgive lots of things. i can't seem to let them go. sometimes i don't realize how much of a bad this is doing to me and others. i guess i should also be more mindful, maybe even more than others :))
thanks for sharing this! it's really inspiring, and eye opening.. i really needed this today.
