10 Changes To Become The Best Version Of Yourself

I hope you all had a perfect Christmas, even though it's always over before we know it! My day was filled with coffee, chocolate and a lot of chill time. It was certainly what I needed, surrounded by laughter and the best roast dinner of my life - we had duck if you were wondering!

Today, I thought I'd share with you ways you can become the best version of yourself. As the New Year is approaching, now seems the perfect time to discuss how we can become better than ever before and enter 2016 the best way possible - so here goes.

1. Self-care
Self-care is an obvious one, but sometimes we need a little gentle reminder to care for ourselves. We need to be open to changes, and listen to our mind and body. Eating well and exercising regularly and being active will increase your overall happiness, whilst boosting your energy. Look after yourself, treat your body with pamper nights and the odd indulgence. Learn to love yourself, and you will thank yourself for it!

2. Veggie?
This is an idea I've been toying with recently and no, I am not telling you to stop eating meat! It's just a lifestyle choice that I think is beneficial, and something I'm going to look into further. I understand that it is healthier for your body to consume plant based ingredients due to the fats and chemicals found in meat. And clearly, there are issues with animal abuse and ethical issues, yet I am still uncertain about this route. Do let me know your thoughts about becoming a veggie!

3. Happy thoughts and happy minds
"If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely" 
- I have always loved this quote and Roald Dahl, of course! It couldn't speak more truth; being positive and trying to stay happy is such a fundamental way to be the best that you can be. Be open minded, seek a new perspective and look on the bright side!

4. Kindness is key
Always be kind and try your best to avoid being judgmental, conceited or condescending. We're all humans, you will benefit greatly if you're kind and you will be rewarded for your actions.

5. Surround yourself with positive beings

We all know that being around someone who is unhappy and pessimistic will bring you down to their level and transfer negative vibes. Bad energy can easily spread and it is up to you to be around positive people who support and push you up!

6. Be grateful for everything
Sometimes it is hard to be grateful and take a step back to appreciate the life you live, the roof over your head, your parents, and the opportunities you have been able to grab. But once you do so you will realise how these things; big or small have made such a wonderful impact on your life. It's also important to be grateful of the low times as they have probably made you a stronger person.

7. Set yourself goals and follow your dreams
Setting yourself goals, writing lists and reaching for your dreams can make you a more positive and motivated person. Organisation and commitment will get you to where you want to be and there's nothing wrong with having a crazy dream as long as you work hard for it!

8. Do something for someone else every day
It's the little things. Whether it's making someone a cup of tea (who doesn't want that?) or travelling four hours to surprise your best friend - you'll feel happy you did it.

9. Be aware of nature

Appreciate the world around you, it's easy to forget what an incredible world we live in. Be mindful and take time to explore nature, stare up into the sky, question the solar system, the Big Bang; after all it's pretty damn crazy and we only have one life (or do we dum dum dum!) so live it the best way possible.

10. Material objects won't make you happy: travel and experience will
It's scientifically proven that material objects don't make you happy, perhaps for a small amount of time but the one thing which will make us happy most of all are experiences. Travel to the places you have always wanted to see, experience things you would never have dreamed of experiencing and live for the moment. Take a step away from technology and luxuries that don't even matter. And if you don't like where you are, move. You are not a tree.

  2. I think expressing gratitude and being grateful is really important as well. I've started this little ritual before bed where I say everything I'm thankful for and I find it really helpful for keeping me grounded and helping me to remember all the good things in my life.

    I too am struggling with the veggie thing... More for sustainability reasons than anything else. It's a tough one, because in the same moment I'm at here drooling at the thought of duck for Christmas!

  5. That's such a lovely list! With the new year approaching I tend to go over my priorities as well. And I'll definitely go with you on the veggie thing - I decided to try at least 1 or 2 vegan days a week for 2016, let's see how that goes.

  6. Really great list! I'm definitely toying with the idea of becoming vegetarian as well. I tried it out for about a month and I actually enjoyed it but I think I rushed into it too quickly and was always lost on what foods I should be eating to make up protein and what not. I became pregnant shortly after and decided it was probably best to continue eating meat just in case I wasn't giving myself enough nutrients. After I give birth though I think im definitely going to try again!

I love this list, especially making goals and following your dreams. 2016 is my last year of my undergrad degree so I'm definitely excited to accomplish as much as I can and see where all these goals will take me throughout the year. I would absolutely love to travel to more nearby cities in the new year as well.

  11. I'm slowly taking meat out of my diet where I can like for example I will always pick the veggie option if I go out for a meal - however since I still live at home I will eat the meat my Mum cooks. Maybe you could try that and see how it goes? Lovely post!

  17. Completely agree with this whole post! I was vegetarian for 6 months, went back to eating meat but felt ill so after I went vegan and I've not looked back! I absolutely love it. x
