TLC For Damaged Hair

Isn't hair a total pain? You never get it cut the way you wanted, it's never the colour you were dreaming it would turn out, it's not straight enough... and after all of these methods to try and get our hair looking perfect it just leaves us disappointed with dry, damaged hair - yay.

One of my new years resolutions is to refrain from dying my hair, it's going to be a struggle but I think I can deliver. So, with the goal to get my hair looking healthy with a glossy shine, I thought I'd share with you my favourite hair products on my journey of luscious locks.

Dove Advance Hair Series Pure Care Dry Oil*

Over Christmas Dove kindly sent me their Dry Oil gift set to give it a try. As my hair is extremely dry and dull from not giving it the love it deserved, we're talking dying, straightening, blow drying... I thought this could be my saviour and it really was. I generally have quite course, thick hair and I was blown away with how soft my hair felt, even after one try.

This Dry Oil set is perfect is you want to protect your hair from the harsh weather, and is an amazing pick me up for dry, brittle locks. The shampoo, conditioner and nourishing balm all contain Macadamia Oil, with the aim to create luminous shine - and the results speak for itself.

All of the products are thick and smell amazing, simply coat the creaminess all over your locks and give your hair the TLC it's in need of. The nourishing balm has to be my favourite, I've been using this once a week and each time my hair feels so healthy and soft.

OGX Shampoo and Conditioner

Another product I like to turn to is the OGX collection. They supply a whole selection of incredible hair care for various hair types; including dry damaged hair.

The Brazilian Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner is a "blend of antioxidant rich coconut oil, along with keratin proteins to help strengthen and soften the hair, while avocado oil and cocoa butter smooth the cuticule for straight, strong tresses, adding a brilliant glow and luminescent shine."

Another favourite of mine is The Nourishing Coconut Milk Shampoo and Conditioner. I adore any coconut scent so it was no surprise I picked up this beauty. This is a blend of indulgent "coconut milk to nourish your hair, while ultra whipped egg white proteins help add strength and elasticity, along with weightless coconut oils for hydration and balance." Dreamy huh? It really is, and it was just what I needed to make my hair stronger.

OGX Oils

When I'm done in the shower I always reach for both the OGX Argan Oil of Morocco and OGX Coconut Oil. These are my go-to products to spray throughout my hair, to add that extra strength and hydration.

I still dry and straighten my hair, so it's obvious my hair will never be the best it can be, but these products have made such a difference with the transformation of my hair over the past few months.

Tangle Teezer

A few years ago I found myself a Tangle Teezer, and it was love. For my hair it was a God send - it's a professional detangling hairbrush, with a smooth operator that works the minute hair is lathered and rinsed. It's perfect for damaged hair, as it doesn't leave you pulling, tugging or screaming...

No way would I go back to a normal hairbrush now - I actually tried the other day when I couldn't find my Tangle Teezer and I was like hell no. I couldn't recommend this enough and there's so many designs to choose from, which is always a winner.

What's your favourite products or tricks to keep your hair looking healthier?

  1. I loved my Tangle Teezer when I first got it, as it was right after a hair cut, but now my hair is in need of some TLC, it just doesn't really work for me at all any more. I've got very thick hair, and it just doesn't seem to pull through! In any case, I'm thinking about lightening my hair, so I'll definitely keep some of these tips in mind! x

  2. Best TLC for damaged hair is coconut oil! massage a generous amount on your hair leave it for 20-40 minutes, wash it off and get stronger and silky hair! Also... the tangle teezer is an amazing tool for damaged hair.

  3. Hair - the endless struggle! I'm really trying to use less heat now, and find that the OGX oils are really good at keeping my waves defined, so maybe I should give the rest of the range a go! x Rebecca - itscohen.co.uk

  4. I feel this! I have blonde hair that i regular touch up at the roots, and if I don't be really nice to it know it just gets so dry! I love trying new hair products to, but I often find i just come out of the shower with super dry hair and it all feels like a waste of time, haha. I'll def be trying some of these products out next time I'm in the shops.

  11. I'm a big fan of the OGX range, that's all I use now! I love the scents and how it's sulfate free, it doesn't dry out my hair :)

I also get regular trims to keep my hair healthy.

  13. So you do like the Tangle Teezer? I've heard a lot of good things about it, but I've never tried it myself. Now I'm not sure if it's only a Canadian/American product, but one brush that I ADORE is the Wet brush. It gets all the knots out of your hair without pulling every hair out of your head, and is specially made for wet hair. I love mine, and I'd recommend it to anyone whose hair is constantly in a tangled mess (like mine).
