Hairstyles For Thick Hair

If you suffer from thick hair syndrome, then you've come to the right place. Thick hair can be such a nightmare, you have course hair and you often wake up looking like hagrid. So today, I thought I'd share with you a few of my go-to hair styles.

P.S. Please forgive me for my terrible roots - I'm trying to save my hair! And as you'll see, my resting b**** face is strong...

Messy bun

Sometimes you cannot go wrong with a messy bun. It's simple, you don't have to straighten your hair beforehand and it can almost seem effortless - and that's because it kind of is. I also like to pull a few bits of hair down to make it look natural. It's definitely a favourite for those days where you need to just run out of the house.

Half up, half down

I love this hair style - although it would work a lot better without those damn roots. It works with both straight and wavy hair, creating a relaxed, edgy look. With thick hair, sometimes you want your hair down but let's be honest, it can get a bit much - so stick half of it up and we're on to a winner.

I use the Babbyliss Pro 235 Smooth Straighteners, reaching up to 235 degrees, which are amazing for thick hair. You can get the job done in less than ten minutes, and my hair feels so soft afterwards.

Wavy

When I'm heading out for the night, I like to go for the wavy look. With thick hair, it's usually quite voluminous anyway and waves can look great. I recently got sent The Ruby Curling Iron*, which has a rotating barrel. It creates lovely natural waves but it's a long old job.

Do you have thick hair too - what hairstyles do you reach for?

  1. This post makes me slightly envious, my hair is so flat, thin and limp! I forever long for thicker locks!

  2. I normally do a half up half down style, even though my hair isn't that thick. It's just the easiest thing to do!

  3. My hair is so incredibly thick! The only thing I ever really do to it is either straighten the crap out of it or curl it. Most times I can't handle having it up in any pretty hairstyle because i'll only end up with a headache :/

  5. Love these tips! My thick hair is difficult to manage as well, I typically give it a soft wave with a curling wand or just give it a brushed blow dry!

Street shots from another country is probably my favorite type of travel posts to read! Rome looks so historically gorgeous; loving your outfit in this one too!

  7. I suffer from think hair! It is a pain as well as a bonus!

My hair is too short for a messy bun, but I definitely want to invest in a good curler and try some messy waves!

Love your blog, just discovered you via Twitter.

  8. I've recently been using a hair lotion from a brand called De Lorenzo, you just scrunch it into damp hair, let it dry and you're left with beachy waves - perfect for the ultimate lazy hair girl like me! xx

  9. Ha ha girl your resting bitch face is practically the chesire cat compared to mine. I look like I'm about to commit a murder when I'm not concentrating!

I'm a huge fan of curling my hair...it lasts for days as well when it's messy curly cos you can just keep loading it up wit dry shampers (I'm lazy as hell...can you tell!?)

  10. Ahhhh my hair is really thick too! I actually quite like it, because it doesn't damage easily and I'll never need extensions, but it is a nightmare to style! I recently cut it a little shorter than yours, and even now, it does not want to hold its style, but it's much easier to manage! Looking forward to curling it and having the lob of pinterest dreams haha x

  19. I have very, very thick hair and when it was Pocahontas-long, I HATED IT. I would always put it up in a messy bun but then it would always strain my head. So I did what I needed to do, I chopped it all off hahaha!

  20. My hair is so thick I always wake up looking like Hagrid even if I put it up, I have started just sticking it all on top of my head no days as I don't have the time in the morning to do it (I start work at 7am).

  21. My fringe always ruins different hair styles, I used to love clipping half of it back but now it looks weird. I either go straight or wavy! Easier haha x
