I'm sure most of you have already fallen in love over Jemma's blog, Dorkface and if not - you're in for a real treat. In Meet The Blogger, I talk to a whole range of bloggers with different passions, skills and experiences. It's so lovely to be able to introduce you to more wonderful people, and even more posts to become inspired by.
She is a social media queen, winner of two blogger awards, creator of The Girl Gang and a talented illustrator. Jemma has worked to hard to get to where she is today and she's certainly deserved it!
This is our chance to find out a little bit more about Jem and her views on blogging, the community and what else she gets up to - this includes watching crime docs, she's totally won me over ❤
She's colourful, creative and a bundle of loveliness! Now, on to the questions!
Hi Jem! Thanks so much for taking part, tell us a little bit more about you and your blog 'Dorkface'.
My blog is my little place for creativity, and all the parts of my life I can't really share any where else. I love to write about my life, share my artwork, review beauty products and much more :)
What was your inspiration for starting a blog and choosing the name?
I always wanted to write so starting a blog seemed like a natural step. The name was simply my way of summing myself up in one word, haha. I wanted people to know that I know I'm a dork, a bit of a creative geek, and not at all cool. I'm okay with that. Plus I think it's pretty unique/memorable.
It's amazing to see you supporting other bloggers through social media and your blog - why do you think this is so important in the blogging world?
I just dont see how we'd get by otherwise! I know I wouldn't be anywhere without people supporting me. So I couldn't get by without doing the same for others, wherever I can. Sometimes even just a simple shoutout, or feature on your blog can really help someone!
Dorkface is filled with amazing lifestyle and creative posts, but what's your ultimate favourite topic to write about?
Things that inspire me. That sounds really vague doesn't it? But I mean the type of posts where I get to talk about things that specifically motivate me, how and why. I like breaking it down, sharing tips, or getting to share my passions. Those moments in life where you stay up all night to get something done, simply because you WANT to, rather than have to? I like to write about those things.
Tell us a little bit more about your wonderful illustrations and how you find the balance between this and your blog.
Oh god, honestly I dont know. It's a crazy schedule. The fact that I'm answering this at almost should tell you my schedule is not easy. I just make a list of what needs to be done each day, and try like crazy to get through it.
It's so lovely to see a unique blogger, how do you make sure you always stay true to yourself online?
Thank you for saying so! I try to ask myself often if Im sharing a true version of myself. Is this who I am, what I really think, what I really want to be? Usually that keeps me from straying :)
Apart from blogging and illustrations, what's one other thing you consider a hobby that many of us may not know about?
I have an obsession with watching crime documentaries and reading about serial killers. I also do a weekly podcast with my boyfriend and enjoy playing Sims when I get a chance, haha.
You're the winner of the Best Up and Coming Lifestyle Blog and Best Social Media Account (congrats!) in the Bloggers Blog Awards! How did this effect you and your blog?
I felt reaaaaally shocked, and proud! I never expected to be nominated, I know everyone says that, but it's true! So to win both was AMAZING. I think after that, it gave me the courage to start up new projects. I quit a crappy job, decided to risk it all and work on my blog/artwork and live a happier life. One of the best moments ever, basically.
What would your advice be for bloggers who would like to grow their social media presence?
Be ACTIVE. Seriously there are so many smaller bloggers out there who I think are way better than me, but they aren't as active as they could be. I schedule tweets for every single day, around the clock. And I make sure I'm chatting inbetween promotional stuff too :) I also post on Instagram each day too. I know its hard, and it's a lot - but DAMN it works. Be yourself, be active, chat to everyone :)
Finally, what's one blogger everyone should be following right now?
Megan from Thumbelina Lillie - her blog is GOALS anyway, but having had the extreme luck to have met her, and now confident in calling her a friend; I can honestly say she is one of the biggest sweethearts in the blogging community.
