"Improve your mental health, one stitch at a time"
Happy Monday! I'm currently travelling up to Brighton with my boyfriend, I'm hoping it's sunny and we're eating lots of snacks (it's a long old drive). Although we don't have long there, it should be fun to explore, chow down and take a billion photos - stay tuned on Instagram! Also, thanks to everyone who sent me recommendations on Twitter, I will be checking them all out on route! Of course a blog post will be coming, but in the meantime, I wanted to share a blogging event I went to over the weekend with New Day Knitwear.
Firstly, what is New Day Knitwear?
Based in Truro, New Day Knitwear is a brand new social enterprise, combining creativity and mental health - awesome right? Stacie Clark is the founder and is seriously lovely. NDK offers 'Our Made By You' crochet kits, which provide a stress-busting and mindful way to keep yourself busy - and you never know, crochet could be your calling!
Everyone has their down days, which means New Day Knitwear can be perfect for everyone - even if you just want to try your hand at crochet! As someone who has definitely had periods of anxiety, and have people around me who have suffered greatly from depression - this idea is one I certainly feel passionate about.
Basically, Stacie, you rock.
Group & 1:1 Support
Stacie also offers group support sessions and one to one sessions to help talk about mental health, get creative and to create a sense of community. Stacie has struggled with depression and anxiety, meaning she understands how hard it can be.
The stigma attached the mental health is slowly breaking, and I have found that we are all much more open to talking about our problems and experiences. Having conversations about how we're feeling is important, alongside spreading awareness.
Having support such as New Day Knitwear gives people the chance to find support in a friendly, informal environment with people who are going through the same thing.
Become a member of the New Day Club
There is also a secret Facebook page that you can gain access to, which will have all sorts of fun stuff going down. We're talking free crochet patterns, worksheets, colouring pages and most importantly, a community where you can find support.
The blogger event
We rocked up to The Old Bakery Studios in Truro, located just beside the river which felt like the most perfect place to have a studio. It was so nice to meet some more bloggers for the first time and have a chance to find out more about them - shout out to Niki, Charlotte (A Fashion Oddity), Anna (The Cornish Life) and Chloe (Chloe Harriets)!
When everyone arrived we followed Stacie into her little space where we all feel a little bit in love with it. It is basically an Instagrammer's dream. We sat down and had introductions, chatted away, had lunch and then got stuck into making crochet chokers. I must admit, I'm definitely not a natural... it took us all quite a while to get the hang of it. It was a lot of fun, and I can see how this can be a great hobby to have, to be mindful of what you're doing and let your worries melt away.
Thank you so much to Stacie for having us and sending us off with a goodie bag of crochet loveliness!
